This extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device only:

• API keys: Your OpenAI or Anthropic API key that you manually enter
• Selected text: Text you highlight on webpages when requesting explanations
• Saved highlights: AI explanations you choose to save, along with any notes, tags, or folder assignments you add
• Extension preferences: Your settings and folder configurations

We do not collect: Personal information, browsing history, cookies, IP addresses, device identifiers, or any analytics data.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to provide the extension's functionality:

• API keys: Used to authenticate requests to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI or Anthropic)
• Selected text: Sent to the AI provider to generate explanations
• Saved highlights: Displayed in your personal library for future reference
• Preferences: Used to customize your extension experience

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the core extension functionality.

3. How We Store Your Information

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync).

• Storage location: Your browser's local storage, on your device only
• Storage duration: Data persists until you delete it or uninstall the extension
• Security: Data is protected by your browser's built-in security and your device's security measures

We do not operate any servers. No data is transmitted to or stored on any servers controlled by us.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not share your data with any third parties.

The only data transmission that occurs is when you request an AI explanation:

• Your selected text and surrounding context is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI (api.openai.com) or Anthropic (api.anthropic.com), depending on your configuration
• This transmission uses your own API key and occurs directly between your browser and the AI provider
• We have no access to, and do not intercept, log, or store this data

Please review OpenAI's Privacy Policy or Anthropic's Privacy Policy for how they handle data you send to them.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained locally on your device for as long as you choose to keep it:

• Saved highlights remain until you manually delete them from the library
• API keys and preferences remain until you change them or uninstall the extension
• Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have full control over your data:

• Access: View all saved data in the extension's library page
• Modify: Edit or update your saved highlights, notes, and preferences at any time
• Delete: Remove individual highlights or clear all data through the extension settings
• Export: Copy your highlights from the library

To delete all extension data: Go to Chrome Settings → Extensions → Wat dis mean? → Remove, or clear the extension's storage through Chrome's site settings.

7. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
